Bumble & Bumble defines Sumotech as "not a wax, not a paste, and not a creme, but a midweight molding compound that's a combination of all three." 

Our definition: Sumotech is this super obsessive indescribable texture that molds hair into amazingness and the world would be a very scary place if it ever ceased to exist. 

Yes, a run-on sentence was necessary. 

It's not uncommon to see a client beeline it to the Sumotech, grab 2 (or more) boxes, and with a smile say, "Just in case." And then we all have a moment as "I completely understand," bursts from every mouth in the room, revealing our shared infatuation. 

Everyone from musicians to feminists, lawyers, contortionists, plumbers, and republicans use Sumotech. It's rumored that our manager's dog, Violet, even uses it.

How can you use it? 

How can't you use it?!? The options are absolutely endless! Really. For a stronger hold, put it in damp hair. For a malleable style, put it in dry hair and reshape throughout the day. Even those with long tresses can put Sumotech on the ends and have defining separation. Mix in some Brilliantine and it will add some shine.

Why does it work so well? It contains silk fibers that help to create space leaving a nice, matte finish.

With the holidays rapidly approaching and, not to mention, our highly anticipated renovations set to begin in January, we're absolutely overwhelmed with excitement!

Considering our enthusiasm for the forthcoming months, our team felt the need to embrace an additional social media outlet beyond our Twitter and Facebook accounts, that could not only provide valuable information to our clients, but also express ourselves as a salon.

We kept coming back to the idea that being a hairdresser means more than just cutting and coloring tresses. It's keeping up with the ever-changing seasons to ensure the hairstyles that emerge from our doors are just as fresh. It's more than just knowing the answers to - "how can I maintain my color", "what products do I need at home", "do you think I could go red", and "can I pull off bangs"? It's meeting and exceeding clients' expectations. It's because hair grows. 

We want to use our blog to let you know what's flowing in and out of James Madison Salon. Our team will single out trending topics amongst the chairs and collectively provide our recommendations complete with images, how-tos, and the occasional video.

MARCHING STRAIGHT INTO FALL

Known for their innovation, Bumble and bumble would, naturally, emerge onto the straightening and smoothing market with their first ever in-salon straightening treatment that's quite unique to the market.

Concen-Straight's formaldehyde free formula, focuses on separating the bonds of the hair without breaking them. This enables the hair to be blow dried straight. However, if air dried, the hair retains it's natural curls. When used in combination with the Concen-Straight shampoo, conditioner, and balm, the treatment can last from 30 to 35 shampoos.
